Samsung’s first flagship for next year, the Galaxy S21 series, has emerged in many high-definition rendering and promotional videos. The S21 Series will provide a variety of colorful color scheme, and coupled with the front screen around the border nearly to the point of no bezel, making the whole phone looks very eye-catching.
Now comes the news that Samsung has added two important features to the ultra-wide-angle camera on the Galaxy S21 Series of devices. It doesn’t look like there are any improvements to the camera hardware on the Galaxy S21 Series due to the same resolution and sensor size. Samsung is reportedly adding dual-pixel phase detection autofocus and macro mode to the ultra-wide-angle camera.
According to a tweet by IceUniverse, Samsung has also upgraded the ultra-wide angle camera sensor from ISOCELL S5K2LA to Sony IMX563. The ultra-wide-angle camera now has a field of view of 123 degrees compared to the 120-degree field of view of the Galaxy S20.
Specifications wise, the Sony IMX563 sensor measures 1/2.55 inches with 1.4μm pixels and supports dual-pixel autofocus, which should provide sharper ultra-wide angle images and videos. Hopefully, with the Exynos 2100 and Snapdragon 888’s ISP improvements, Samsung should be able to offer 4K 60fps HDR10+ video recording with the ultra-wide camera and smooth switching between all rear camera sensors in the Galaxy S21 Series.
The Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Plus are expected to have three cameras on the rear: first is 12 megapixel’s wide-angle camera (1/1.76-inch) with dual-pixel autofocus support; second is 12 megapixel’s ultra-wide camera with dual-pixel autofocus support; third is 64 megapixel’s telephoto camera. The Galaxy S21 Ultra will use the upgraded 108MP ISOCELL HM3 sensor as the wide-angle camera, plus a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera and two 10MP telephoto cameras, one with 3x optical zoom and the other with 10x optical zoom.
Samsung Galaxy S21 ultrasonic fingerprint sensor
Besides the improvement in the camera section, Samsung will also improve the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor with Galaxy S21 Series. According to the source, the Galaxy S21 ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is 1.77 times higher than the previous generation, which is measured 8×8mm=64mm² (S20 has 4×9 = 36mm²), and reading speed is doubled, just like a tap and unlock.
