It was only six months ago that Apple was releasing the iPhone 12 series, spearheaded by the extremely impressive iPhone 12 Pro Max. But that just moves us six months closer to the release of the next iPhone. And with all the rumors circulating, we’re starting to get an idea of how that device will stack up against Apple’s current lineup.
It goes without saying that buying any of the iPhone 12 models right now is a great decision if you’re due for a new phone. You get the best that Apple has to offer, including 5G support.
Though we’re a ways out from an iPhone 13 release — we anticipate a mid-September announcement — that doesn’t mean we can’t get excited and speculate about the next new iPhone and how it could improve upon an already impressive selection of iPhone 12 models.
Here’s how an iPhone 13 vs. iPhone 12 face-off looks right now, with the iPhone 13 still in the rumor stage.
For the iPhone 13, we expect there to be four models: iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. We base this on what Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said (via MacRumors) earlier last year. Considering the poor sales of the iPhone 12 mini, it wouldn’t surprise us to see Apple cancel its plans for the iPhone 13 mini. We certainly hope not, since the iPhone 12 mini is the best small phone right now.
As far as price, current rumors suggest that the iPhone 13 will be an iterative upgrade to the iPhone 12, so we don’t anticipate the pricing structure to be too far off from what the 12 series goes for right now. That would mean that the iPhone 13 mini would start at $699 (64GB), iPhone 13 at $799 (64GB), iPhone 13 Pro at $999 (128GB), and iPhone 13 Pro Max at $1,099 (128GB).
If Apple increases the base storage on the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 — and boy, do we hope that Apple does exactly that — then we might see a slight increase on those phones’ starting prices, perhaps $749 and $849. That’s just speculation, though. There is also a possibility that there will be a ludicrous 1TB storage option for the Pro models.
