The OnePlus 10 series might have 5,000mAh batteries

OPPO has unveiled its latest battery technology, which, as it claims, contains some significant performance and safety upgrades over the existing SuperVOOC 2.0 system. It is still rated for the same charging rate (65W), although its new structure might allow for greater capacity this time around. Therefore, the next-gen flagships from this OEM, not to mention its subsidiary OnePlus, could have larger batteries.

The current top-end type of smartphone battery packs developed by the OEM OPPO recharge at up to 65 watts (W), and can thus rated to fill a 4,500mAh example of these in approximately 30 minutes. However, the OEM clearly believes it can improve on this technology (known as SuperVOOC 2.0) in its next iteration.

OPPO has just unveiled several new tweaks for the next-gen batteries in question. They still come in dual-cell form; however, it apparently now has a new structure that involves a new polymer divider for the 2 cells. Furthermore, the OEM has introduced a new safety chip that scans the entire pack for defects such as voltage spikes during charging and alerts the user should the battery need to be replaced.

Furthermore, the OEM has announced that it will integrate gallium nitride (GaN) into its batteries for the first time. It asserts that these new adaptations ensure a given battery will retain 80% of its health after 1,500 charging cycles, apparently well above the OEM’s existing standards.

The new tech is also rated to cut the amount of heat produced by a battery by 50%. Finally, the leaker Digital Chat Station, who also followed this presentation, claims that OPPO’s research will result in an increase in maximum sizes for these 65W batteries from 4,500mAh at present to 5,000mAh, possibly by the end of 2021.

Therefore, these upgraded batteries could appear in the successors to the Find X3 and X3 Pro. Considering its relationship with OnePlus and Realme (fellow BBK Electronics subsidiaries who rebrand SuperVOOC to Warp Charge and SuperDart Charge respectively), this could also apply to their upcoming flagships.
